If you haven’t heard of Circa Survive, where have you been? The band pulled double duty this year - that is played the two biggest concerts: Warped Tour and Coachella. Now, being versatile enough to satisfy both crowd’s tastes is no small feat, but being crowd favorites at both, now that’s amazing. We caught up with front man Anthony Green in order to toss a few words around.

SuburbanHorror: So the new CDs out. What’s it like to be on Warped Tour?

Anthony Green: Well, it’s the first day, and the first day has been so much fun. I can only anticipate that it’s only going to be so much better.

SH: On the latest album, what is your favorite song?

AG: I probably have like five of them. Today we opened our set with the song "Living Together," and that’s my favorite song to open a set with.

SH: What’s it like being on tour?

AG: For a musician, it’s pretty much the best thing you can imagine. You get to be around art and artists all day long; it’s very inspiring.

SH: I know you probably get this question all the time, but how do you feel about Saosin?

AG: I love those guys.

SH: I interviewed them, and you are a lot nicer than they were.

AG: Well, I had some of the best time of my life with those dudes, and it was a really great experience for me. I just continue couldn’t go on with it. That shit’s all behind us, so there’s no hard feelings I’m sure on either end.

SH: Circa Survive sounds so different from Saosin. I don’t even know why they compare you guys.

AG: We’re all artists. We’re all just trying to do our thing. There’s nothing that should keep us apart.

SH: So what do you on the tour bus to stay sane?

AG: We read a lot. All of us are reading right now. I’ve been taking pictures on this tour; I’m going to do an issue for Alternative Press - that should be really fun. We do tons of dumb stuff. We read a lot, we cook, we’ll stop at a rest stop and jump rope for half an hour, just to keep the legs circulating.

SH: What are you reading right now that you really like?

AG: I’m reading a book right now called "The Voice of Knowledge." It’s about the truth we know and our reality and the truth that exists in nature. It just has to do with dealing with your insecurities in different ways.

SH: Besides music, do you have anything other that you secretly would like to continue or try?

AG: I want to start producing. I love singing - it’s kind of unreal how much I love singing. But, I would love to be in a studio with a band and have fun. That would be awesome.

SH: How did you know you wanted to be a singer?

AG: I didn’t. I sort of just fell into it. I don’t even remember how I started singing for the first band I started singing for. I was the only one - we didn’t even have anyone playing drums, it was just a bunch of my friends on guitars and a bass, and we would play Nirvana songs and Minor fucking Threat songs, Ten Foot Pole, Green Day, and fucking Screeching Weasel. I would always just listen to stuff from my brother; I was always attracted to music. No one else would do it; no one else wanted to sing so I would do it.

SH: It’s like the default position.

AG: Yeah, I was like, "OH I’LL DO IT!" (laughs)

SH: Did you know you had a good voice?

AG: I never really knew I could sing, like make a living making music singing until the last four or five years. You know people say, "Oh you look great!" or "That looks nice," people are like "Wow you have a really great voice." It’s a little weird; it takes a while to sink in. It still hasn’t really sunk in for me yet; I still am amazed by the shit that we can do together as a band and the shit that has happened. That shit blows my mind every day.

SH: What inspires you the most?

AG: My brothers. My band mates, my family - my nieces and nephews. Definitely just the relationships I have in my life, inspiring me and giving me something to rely on.
