Victory Records perpetuates the high influx of adequate musicians with mediocre releases. This needs to stop. A Day To Remember's For Those Who Have Heart is one no less than six mediocre releases I have reviewed in my year as a writer for Suburban Horror. I don't mind trading them in to Lou's Records, but it certainly disappoints me when I hear something that has been done over and over. A Day To Remember are one of thousands of bands out there that offer little to separate themselves from each other.

For Those Who Have Heart starts off seemingly hopeful, but quickly loses their charm within that first song. The record follows the formula that made From Autumn To Ashes and the latter-work of Underoath famous. Scream hardcore with metal-tinged guitars, then sing with an emo/whining pop sensibility. While that formula can be executed well by some bands like Silverstein, it is performed adequately by many more. No new ground is broken, and what we have here is an expensive breakdown/pissing contest.

I hear promise in songs like "Show 'Em the Ropes" and "Here's To The Past", but the band definitely needs to work on their songwriting rather than wearing their influences so blatantly on their sleeves.

To be honest, I found their release on Indianola, "And Their Name Was Treason" a lot more enjoyable and a decent first release. They had more emo-pop punk influence with the screaming laid over a few songs, and a lot less breakdowns. It was varied, but not confused. A Day To Remember focused their energies in the wrong direction, and I sincerely hope they get back on the right track.
