 | Aqualung Memory Man Columbia 8.5 out of 10 Band Website
For those not in the know, the Aqua-lung was the original name for the first open-circuit piece of Scuba diving equipment, developed by Jacques Cousteau in 1943. It consists of a high pressure diving cylinder and a diving regulator that supplies the diver with breathing gas at ambient pressure, via a demand valve. This information is probably unnecessary for most of our readers, not because Jacques Cousteau was less important than the more modern reference, but because these days when we hear the name Aqualung we think of the British song writer Matt Bales who constructs delicate tunes in the vein of Coldplay, U2 and other contemporary fragile-rock artists. This sophomore effort from the entity known as Aqualung is a superb follow up to his debut effort "Strange and Beautiful". The songs are more thought out, mature and overall catchier than before. Unfortunately, the same problem persists with "Memory Man" that plagued Bales original effort; the songs, while very well written and quite enjoyable, ultimately blend into one another and for the most part don't stand out amongst the more notable artists who created this genre. I enjoy "Memory Man", but I fear that it will go largely unnoticed.
