 | Gliss Love The Virgins Mountain Lo-Fi 9 out of 10 Band Website
Gliss is bliss. The instrument swapping trio, Martin, Victoria and David, present a post-trance electrically charged performance in Love the Virgins, their first full-length album. Hot off a European tour with Billy Corgan, Editors and others, the band obviously found inspiration in their travels and came back full-force. Much of their music was written on the road and some even recorded along the way. Whatever Europe and their co-musicians on the journey were feeding them obviously worked.
The band claims LA as home, but Victoria was actually snagged from Denmark. She fits right into the trio and adds that little extra something that was missing before. So many songs on this album showcase the synergy built up from the completion of the band.
The beat-bumping 'Huh What' demonstrates a serious rocking ability along with a talent for pure funk. Guitar riffs sing out through the blaring drum beats like icing on the cake--- a perfect accent.
'Blue Sky' is a musical adventure that really pronounces Martin's androgynous vocal stylings for all its gender-bending wonderment. If you didn't know it was a man doing all that pleasant purring with the lyrical lilt you might confuse him for Garbage lead singer, Shirley Manson--- except maybe a bit more sweet.
All it takes is a little drums, bass and guitar and you have yourself a winning combination. Well that and some hardcore talent and drive. Whatever these kids have they should bottle it.
