I have never been much of an Atreyu fan so maybe I’m not the best to be reviewing their new record, "A Death-Grip On Yesterday" or maybe I am. I did not like their first album, and their second didn’t make me a fan, but I thought it was alright. This new record reminds me a lot more of their last, which I consider a good thing.

The screaming vocals on this album by lead singer Alex Varkatzas do turn me away from this record, but the soft singing voice behind the screaming is a breath of fresh air while listening to this new album. Track 2 titled "Shameful" stands out to me because of this. A lot more singing and a bit less of the screams. I have seen these guys live and I felt the same way then as I do now.

Personally I feel if they stuck with the singing by drummer Brandon Saller I would have them in my cd player much more often. Musically these guys are quite talented. The guitar solos on this album are a bit few and far between which I find a bit sad. I would like to hear a lot more of that from these guys because I know they have it in them to do it. Track 6 titled "Exs and Ohs" also stands out on this album once you get past the throaty verses and get to the really nice chorus. This track also features one of these guitar solos I mentioned that sounds pretty good.

I think I could honestly take a full album of chorus' from this group, because that is what mainly grabs my attention and holds on and does not let go. The track "Your Private War" is a total onslaught of trademark Atreyu throatiness. "My Fork In The Road" sets up the ending of this album on a high note, but the end track takes away from that a bit in my opinion. Which brings me to my next point, this album only features 9 tracks, which does not bother me for the most part, but most strong Atreyu followers may be a bit bummed by this fact. All in All, if you consider yourself an Atreyu fan to this point, I can assure you that you won’t be disappointed with this new record, I’m sure you will love it and you should for sure go and pick it up. I can see these guys being around for quite some time with the new album, so get used to them if you haven’t already.
