THE SAINTE CATHERINES
DANCING FOR DECADENCE
Fat Wreck Chords
9 out of 10

From the first track "Burn Guelph Burn" to the last "Track & Field Style", Montreal's own Sainte Catherines have made an awesome record. While you may think of a gruffer sounding Good Riddance at the beginning, this record develops to show you that The Sainte Catherines indeed have a sound of their own that will definitely secure itself a special place in your heart. This six piece (three guitarists) play punk in the vein of Good Riddance, Strike Anywhere, and Avail but without sounding like a carbon copy of any of them. The songs are honest, at times witty and there isn't one worth skipping. This is by far one of the best punk records I've gotten within the last year and I couldn't be happier that the band has secured a spot on a label that has the potential to help them reach a level of success which may have been previously unattainable. Their last record "The Art of Arrogance" was fantastic too, but everything from the songs to the recording has been improved. The lyrics are great as always, "I don't like what's pretty, I like what's real. What about finding beauty where it's not supposed to be?" and especially in "Emo-ti-cons: Punk Rock Experts" where Hugo repeats quotes that people have assumedly said to him or about the band, "They're a clone of Born Against, I can hear some Lifetime, he can't sing, the drummer’s not tight* and there's no passion". These twelve songs together make an unbelievable album. Please support this important band.
